Handmade Holidays: Felt Birdie Ornaments

/ Thursday, December 9, 2010

I love little birdies and they inspired me to create a cute ornament for the holidays. What you'll need:

- 2 contrasting felt sheets
- Coordinating thread
- button
- batting
- sewing machine or needle and thread (to sew body together)
- embroidery thread

The bf bought me a cricut a couple of years ago for Christmas. Its my 'go-to' machine for all my crafts. For this project, I used it to create the template using the "Storybook Cartridge".

I used the template for both the birdie's body & wings.

Next, sew the birdie's wings & eyes using embroidery thread to ONE felt birdie body:

and then...

This was a fun lil' craft & I enjoyed making it. If you're interested in making your own & don't have a pattern, let me know and I'll send you a PDF with the pattern for you to cut out/use. Email me at info@lizziloves.com and I will send it to you.

Remember, you can always customize your birdie any way you want. I was thinking maybe sewing it in a zig-zag stitch instead for some texture... or maybe adding some lines where the feathers are in different colors... so many options! =)
